Abstract:

“Home” is both the “home away from home” where tourists “dwell poetically” in the tourism field and the “primary home” to which they return to normal daily life. Research on the theory of “home” in the tourism context primarily focuses on tourists’ “home away from home”, with limited exploration of how mass tourists construct the cognitive meaning of tourism activities and how meanings associated with the primary home are formed. Drawing on the mobility theory perspective, this study takes the three spatial categories of “place of departure”, “tourism corridor”, “place of arrival” as the entry point and maps the complete tourism time-space circulation path of tourists. This process is specifically reflected in dimensions such as the dissolution of daily habitus, ritualized farewell, emotional presence, emotional deepening, and the aggregation of daily meaning metaphors. The emotional changes of mass tourists towards the primary home present a dynamic evolutionary trajectory of “escape—retrospection—reflection—return—deepening”, and the connection between tourists and home is reconstructed in this process. Meanwhile, individual differences in life stages before and after marriage and childbirth affect the depth of tourists’ emotional cognition of the primary home, behind which lies the individual’s cognitive thinking and choice logic regarding self and family subject identities.
